Year of Prayer — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-06-24
Your prayers never leave your device.
Year of Prayer is built so that your private moments of prayer stay private. We mean that literally, in the simplest possible terms:
- No accounts. You never sign in. There is nothing to register for.
- No tracking. We do not track you, your browsing, or how you use the extension.
- No analytics. There is no usage analytics, no telemetry, and no event logging sent anywhere.
- No ads. The extension shows no advertising and contains no ad or marketing trackers.
- No data is ever transmitted to any server. Year of Prayer has no backend. There is no server for it to talk to. It runs entirely on your own device, offline.
What is stored, and where
Everything Year of Prayer remembers about you is stored only in
chrome.storage.local — Chrome's on-device storage for this extension, on your
own computer. This includes:
- Streaks — how many days in a row you have opened a prayer.
- Favorites — prayers you have chosen to keep.
- Prayer intentions — your personal, private prayer notes.
- Settings — your reminder time, theme preference, and Share-button preference.
This data is never uploaded, never synced to our servers (we have none), and never shared.
Your prayer intentions are private and on-device only
Personal prayer intentions are the most sensitive thing the extension holds. They are
stored only on your device, in chrome.storage.local. They are
never synced across machines, never shared, and
never sent anywhere. They belong to you alone.
Sharing a prayer
When — and only when — you choose to share a prayer, Year of Prayer builds a
link and hands it to your browser's normal share or copy actions. The shared prayer is
encoded entirely in the link's URL fragment (the part after the
#).
By the design of the web, a URL fragment is never sent to any server — including GitHub's, which hosts the landing page. The friend who opens your link has the prayer decoded and rendered in their own browser only. Nothing about the share reaches us, because there is no server to reach.
No share ever happens automatically. Nothing is withheld or unlocked in exchange for sharing. A prayer is only ever shared after your explicit tap.
The landing page
When you share a prayer, the link points to a free, static landing page. That page:
- has no analytics and no tracking of any kind,
- loads no third-party scripts, fonts, or styles,
- reads the shared prayer from the URL fragment and renders it in the visitor's browser,
- offers a single, honest link to install Year of Prayer from the Chrome Web Store.
Permissions, and why each is needed
Year of Prayer requests the minimum permissions required to work. It requests no host permissions and accesses no websites. The three permissions are:
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
storage |
Save your streak, favorites, intentions, and settings locally on your device. |
alarms |
Schedule the optional daily reminder you choose to enable. |
notifications |
Show the opt-in daily reminder notification, if you have turned it on. |
The reminder is off until you turn it on. If you never enable it, the alarms
and notifications permissions are simply unused.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be published here with a new "Last updated" date. Because the extension collects and transmits no data, we do not anticipate material changes.
Contact
Questions about privacy can be raised through the project's public repository or the extension's Chrome Web Store listing. We do not collect email addresses or any contact information from you.
